How can academies turn long-term development principles into measurable, everyday in-game player responsibilities?

DFB GmbH & Co. KG announced that Per Mertesacker will become its managing director for sport on 1 January 2027, succeeding Andreas Rettig. In this role, Mertesacker will oversee the national teams and the DFB academy, bringing experience from his eight-year tenure leading Arsenal's academy and his 104 caps for Germany. The stated priority of the appointment is developing talented players and individuals through humility, patience, and environments where athletes take personal responsibility.
